Bas Kruimer
Senior Manager, Smart Grid Services
Bas Kruimer works for Accenture Smart Grid Services Europe in the Intelligent Grid Operations team with many years of international experience in energy and electrical utility field. He holds a Master of Science degree in Power Engineering from Delft University of Technology and has been working in the Electricity Transmission & Distribution market since 1990. Different commercial roles, marketing and business development, product management and development, and general management on vendor side, on consulting side and on utility side. Subject matter advisor in substation automation, network control/SCADA, protection and IEC 61850 from positions with ABB, KEMA, and Eneco/Joulz. In Quanta Technology focus shifted to Situational Awareness and Phasor-Measurement Strategy, Applications Roadmapping and moving to Asset Management, (Big) Data handling, Grid Analytics, System Resilience and (Cyber) Security. Currently participating in and contribution to Grid Control & Operations, IT/OT Integration in Utilities environment, Integrated Operations Centers and related Telecoms and SCADA projects/programmes for Electricity, Gas and Water/Waste Water Operations in Europe. Directed a Smart Gas + Electricity Meter development and large scale roll-out programme in the Netherlands. Contributing to the NextGen SCADA, Grid Analytics and Cyber Security points of view from an Intelligent Grid Operations perspective.

Thijs van den Broek
Senior Manager, Analytics Advisory
Thijs van den Broek works for Accenture Analytics Advisory leading the Advanced Analytics team, with experience in the full range of data and analytics. He holds a Master of Science degree in Information Science from Utrecht University and has been working at various clients on topics like Data Management, Business Intelligence and Advanced Analytics. He has performed various roles in delivery, architecture, and business development in Oil & Gas, Telco, and FMCG clients. Functional domain expertise includes Operations Analytics, Supply Chain Analytics, Production, Finance & Marketing. His current focus is on Analytics Strategy where he supports clients in setting up an (Advanced) Analytics capability.

Robin Hagemans
Manager Data & Insights
Robin Hagemans MSc is working as IT R&D Manager at Alliander (holding company of Liander) and member of the management team for Digital Grids. He studied Process Engineering and Business Science in the Netherlands and is the executive of the Advance Analytics Innovation program for translating complex grid –related analytics into robust and scalable IT solutions. Robin has a background in Technical Automation & Statistical Engineering and participated as senior member of the Taskforce Energy transition in the development of Alliander’s Smart Grid Strategy & Roadmap.

Werner Van Westering
Data Scientist
By combining a role as Ph.D. candidate and Analytics expert at Alliander Data & Insights, Werner bridges the gap between scientific creativity and corporate efficiency. Werner is an expert in grid simulations & control and invented several mathematical models which are proving their worth on a day-to-day basis. Model use cases include: Real time battery control in smart grids, large scale electricity grid simulations for determining the impact of the energy transition and large scale optimization of the network switching configuration.

Andy Gay
Utilities Segment Lead
Andy Gay is a recognized expert in Energy Utility geospatial and operations systems. He has over 30 years’ experience delivering GIS, Grid Operations, and Asset Management software projects globally. Andy previously worked for Xcel Energy as an IT Manager, for Schlumberger as Manager of Software Projects, and for the past 14 years at General Electric in various software delivery roles. Andy is currently the Utility Software Segment Leader for our global utility customers.

David MacLeman
Innovation Strategy Manager
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks
David MacLeman is the Innovation Strategy Manager at Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks with over 35 years of experience in the industry, holding various positions of responsibility. He has been responsible for building up SSEN's transmission and distribution R&D activities since the introduction of the Innovation Funding Incentive in 2005. This programme of activities covers a wide range of projects and David has managed the delivery of leading edge innovations such as the Active Network Management scheme which lead to the creation of the Orkney Smart Grid. David also served as a non-executive director of Smarter Grid Solutions for several years from the start up of the company. He presently chairs the IET Power Networks Research Academy, the Energy Networks Association R&D Working Group and the ENA Collaborative Energy Portfolio

Adam Brown
Bellrock Technology
Adam is co-founder and CEO of Bellrock Technology, an engineering and high-tech software company based in Glasgow, UK. He has a background in electronics, power and software engineering and previously worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Strathclyde. Here, he helped to develop the technology behind Lumen®, Bellrock Technology’s smart analytics-as-a-service platform. He is a joint patent holder for the technology and has led its commercialisation since forming the company in 2012. Since then, he has helped to raise over £1m funding to continue Lumen’s development, improve its scalability and ensure its security. He continues to work closely with utility partners, helping them to tailor Lumen’s use for a range of decision support applications.

Raido Rosenberg

Elektrilevi OÜ
Raido Rosenberg holds a M.Sc in Electrical Power Engineering from Tallinn University of Technology. Raido started in Elektrilevi, Estonia’s largest DSO, with leading the grid automation program within Control Centre before moving on to managing various large scale IT/OT development projects in Elektrilevi. Today Raido is managing the Network Systems Development Department and is responsible for systems related development projects, systems architecture and data analytics within Elektrilevi.

Harri Hauta-Aho
IT Service Area Manager
For the past ten years, I have worked in various kinds of roles, previously in Fortum; and now in Caruna - the biggest DSO in Finland. A common ground for all the positions have been Change. As a Project manager in the Smart meter project my team and I were responsible for the transformation of many of the core operational processes change by the new meters and systems we implemented. Soon after that we started a new kind of transformation project when Fortum divested the distribution business, we then started as an independent distribution company called Caruna in 2015. IT wise this has meant a change of most of our core IT systems. So far this has been an interesting trip, and I look forward to whatever lies ahead.

Sander Jansen

At the Alliander IT department, Sander takes a role as data architect and is involved in the use of IEC CIM and IEC 61850. Sander had multiple positions within Alliander on the edge of electrical technology and IT/OT. Being a strong open source believer, Sander promotes the use of open source within the energy world and helps setting up open source projects including the Open Smart Grid Platform. He is convinced that open source can help to make the energy grid more reliable, innovative, secure, flexible and sustainable, all resulting in a lower cost for society.

Karim Jawad
Tiger Watson IoT Europe, Energy & Utilities
Karim Jawad is a member of the European Tiger Team for IBM Watson Internet of Things and Subject Matter Expert in Energy & Utilities Asset Performance Management. Karim has been involved with Analytics & Internet of Things projects within E&U, Industrial and Travel & Transportation. Previously held positions included: European leader for IBM's Analytics platform Insights Foundation for Energy, Smarter Cities Leader and South West Europe leader for IBM Sensors & Actuators.

Theo Borst
Head of Section, Energy
Theo is Business Director and Principal Consultant at DNV GL - Energy (formerly known as KEMA). He focuses on Smartgrid technologies such as ADMS, SCADA EMS, OMS, Common Information Model (CIM), Utility telecommunication, Substation automation and Cyber security. In addition to that he focuses on Digital Transformation of Energy systems and Energy Data Analytics. Besides consulting on these topics, he is responsible for strategy- and business development as well as sales and contract management on these topics. Theo Borst has an electrical engineering / computer science background and an MBA degree. He has more than 23 years of (international) experience in system- and software engineering, enterprise architecture, solution architecture, business consultancy, business development, product management, project management (PRINCE II and IPMA-C), team management and QA.

Fiona Fulton

Fiona Fulton has over 20 years of experience in telecoms & systems engineering, data management & control systems, latterly focusing on smart energy systems. She has worked in a range of roles from technical design through to management of corporate- wide innovation strategies. She currently leads Scottish Power Energy Network’s Smart Meter Systems initiative, as well as working on related data innovation projects. She holds a Master of Engineering degree in Electronics, an MSc in Sustainable Energy Systems and is a Chartered Engineer.

Alex White
Smart Grid Director, Consulting
Alex is a Director of Consulting with over 25 years of experience in Systems Architecture, Design & Development within the Energy, Utilities and Telecoms sectors. He is passionate about using modern technologies in innovative ways to release the latent value of power system network data, to prepare for a future with increasing data-centric demands, to meet the challenges created by radical industry transformation and decarbonisation. He is also the Energy Utilities and Telecoms Open Source Profession Lead working within the CGI UK Smart Grid and Asset Practice.

Rune van der Meijden
Rune is currently finishing his Master in Applied Mathematics at TU Delft. His master thesis research was done in cooperation with the Dutch DSO Stedin and the department of Civil and Environmentel Engingeering at Stanford University, USA, where the main part of this research was undertaken. Rune has been the Head Strategy of the Nuon Solar Team in 2013, optimizing the race strategy of the fully solar-powered race car Nuna, wining world titles in both 2013 and 2015. In 2014 Rune participated in the Dutch National Thinktank on Big Data for Society.

Francisco Melo

Francisco has a Master in Electrical and Computer Engineering by Instituto Superior Técnico. His specialization areas are Telecommunications and Energy. He also has a post-graduation in Renewable Energy Management by Universidade Católica Portuguesa. He holds the position of Head of Mission Critical Application Development Unit at EDP Distribuição (Portuguese DSO) in Grid’s Digital Plataform Department. In his role he is responsible for developing new mission critical solutions for grid operation and cooperating with European institutions on Smart Grid initiatives. Before that he has acquired experience in the telecommunication, energy and transport domains as a consultant.

Gordon Jahn
Open Grid Software
Dr Gordon Jahn is Chief Technical Officer at Open Grid Systems, a software and consultancy company providing services to the electrical power industry focussed on model-driven software engineering, open standards and cutting-edge technologies. Gordon has supported network operators and generation businesses since 1999 with improved data handling and visualisation techniques. Gordon has held diverse engineering roles including implementing network stacks on modern microcontrollers and replacing obsolete control systems at safety-critical plants. He joined Open Grid Systems in 2014 and most recently graduated from the University of Strathclyde in 2011 with a PhD in Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

Floran Stuijt
Analytics Lead Architect
Before starting at Alliander (holding company of the Dutch DSO Liander) in 2012, Floran worked for several years in the ICT and robotics sector. Holding a master's degree in artificial intelligence and a degree in computer science, he is able to approach complex grid-related challenges from a broad and fresh perspective. In his current role as architect he is responsible for the BI & analytics landscape, ensuring alignment with the company's analytics roadmap. One of his focus areas is the realm of real time analytics. He is involved in the design and implementation of a real-time data platform, thereby contributing to the foundation of Liander's future vision on grid operations.

Signe Bramming Andersen
Senior Manager, Head of Asset & Energy Management

Signe Bramming Andersen manages the Energy & Asset Management Department at DONG Energy and is responsible for implementing IT-platforms for supporting DONG Energy’s Smart Energy Programmes including ADMS, Wind Farm Management, Power Hub (VVP) and Bio Hub. Signe has worked with DONG Energy since 1999 and holds a Master in Economics & Business Administration.

Jesper Vinther Christensen

Jesper Vinther Christensen is the founder and Owner of SIMILIX, a consultancy company offering independent advisory consultancy on IT and Organizational Transformations. Since 2011 Jesper has been the Lead Architect of the DONG Energy Smart Grid Programme. Jesper holds a Ph.D. in GeoScience & Computing Science and has 20 years of experience with IT-projects, especially with System Integration, Enterprise Architecture and Geographic Information Systems.

Martijn Imrich
Martijn Imrich is helping companies to be more Data Driven since the nineties. Today he is a Partner at Xomnia, an Amsterdam based Big Data firm. To speed up the development and implementation of Data Science, Martijn is driving the Data Lab practices at Xomnia. A Data Lab is the innovative workspace of Data Scientists and Data Analysts alike, full of functionality and security to boost reaping the business benefits of Data Science. Martijn is also known for designing (Big) Data Architectures, being the first to publish a Big Data Reference Architecture, positioning both Data Models and Technology. Besides his senior business development skills, Martijn is an experienced public speaker and teacher.

Elmer Koene

Elmer Koene works for Accenture Assets & Operations, leading its Digital Asset Management offering in The Netherlands, with focus on improving company performance on maintenance execution and plant reliability. He holds a Master of Science degree in Applied Physics from the University of Twente and over the last 13 years has helped clients in the resources industry on topics like Maintenance Excellence, Supply Chain optimization, CMMS tool selection, SAP implementations, predictive analytics, asset performance management, dynamic business simulation and organisational change management. He has performed various roles in project delivery, architecture, data management and business development in oil & gas.

Kim Vrancken
Senior Manager, Head of Assets & Grid Architecture
Kim Vrancken served until 2014 as a Gas Technology Manager for Eandis. A company that carries out operational tasks on behalf of distribution grid operations for electricity and natural gas in Flanders- Belgium. At this moment Kim is holding the position of Asset Strategy and Grid Architecture Manager for Eandis. Through a career that spans over 13 years at Eandis, Kim has gained extensive experience in asset management. He joined Eandis as a young graduated engineer in 2003 and still serves the company with enthusiasm. He earned a master degree in engineering and completed an Executive MBA. Kim is married and has no children. Kim used to be a golf player. At this moment Kim spends his free time by cycling and enjoying nature.

Dieter Vonken

Dieter is a Manager within the Risk Advisory team of Deloitte Belgium, where he leads the Data Analytics Business Transformation service line. The focus relates to Asset & Process Performance within Energy, Infrastructure and Utility companies, providing services with respect to various asset management processes, such as Asset Performance, Asset (Risk) Management, Asset Data & Information Management, Data Quality Management, Investment & Maintenance Planning, Dashboarding (BI), Change Management and Organizational Design.

Matthias Stifter

Matthias Stifter received a degree in Technical Cybernetics from Vienna University of Technology, Austria. From 2003 to 2007 he worked at the Institute of “Computer Graphics and Algorithms” at Technical University of Vienna and at University of Technology Graz. He has several years of experience in the industry as a professional in the field of software development. Since 2007 he is with AIT, Energy Department - Electric Energy Systems. His research interests include integration of distributed generation, active distribution networks, voltage control, low voltage networks, smart meters and standards for communication and control in smart electricity networks. Since 2008 he is national expert and since 2013 operating agent for the IEA DSM Task 17 – Integration of DSM, DG, RES and Energy Storages. Since 2010 he is lecturer at the University of Applied Science Technikum Wien for Electric Networks and Simulation of Smart Grids. He has authored and co-authored more than 45 research papers. He received the national Smart Grids Award three times. He is member of IEEE PES, where he is member of the task force for open source software for power systems, member of IEEE IES Technical Committee on Smart Grids and member of Cigre Joint Study Committee C6 D2.32 on Smart Meter Data.
